SAMBA, Nov 4: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR No. 19/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Sunil Kumar, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Dadui in Samba district, for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant.
Officials said the Patwari had demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000 from the complainant for preparing a report that was sought by the Tehsildar Samba regarding correction of Girdawari. After negotiation, the amount was allegedly settled at ₹80,000. The complainant, however, managed to arrange only ₹20,000 of the agreed amount.
Not wanting to pay bribe money to the official, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau seeking legal action.
Following the complaint, a discreet verification was carried out by ACB officers, which confirmed the Patwari’s demand. Subsequently, FIR No. 19/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a trap was laid by ACB. The accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. He was arrested on the spot after due procedure was followed, officials confirmed. The bribe amount was also recovered from his possession.
Further searches led to the recovery of more than ₹35 lakh in cash from the accused’s personal vehicle. Searches were also conducted at his residence in the presence of Magistrates, officials added.
The investigation in this case is currently underway.
