Samsung has officially teased its next-generation dynamic HDR format called HDR10 Plus Advanced, setting the stage for a direct face-off with Dolby’s recently introduced Dolby Vision 2.
According to reports from The Verge, Samsung showcased the new technology ahead of CES 2026, where Dolby Vision 2 was first presented.
What HDR10+ Advanced Promises
The new format is designed to support premium TV panels with extreme brightness levels — ranging between 4000 to 5000 cd/m² — a class of displays that already exist on the market.
Samsung claims the upgraded standard will deliver:
- More precise colour rendering at a per-panel level
- Significantly improved tone mapping control
- Enhanced dynamic HDR performance for next-gen TVs
The move clearly highlights Samsung’s strategy to tackle Dolby Vision 2 directly, especially as the industry moves into the next phase of ultra-bright TV technology.
While Dolby is pushing proprietary licensing with Vision 2, Samsung’s HDR10+ Advanced appears positioned as an open rival — much like the original HDR10+ format that Samsung previously championed in response to Dolby Vision.
More official details and confirmed specs are expected as CES 2026 draws closer.
